The Long Conversation

by Peter Saint-Andre

Husband and wife
Engaged through life
In constant talk
While they both walk
On side by side;
Though they once eyed
Each other face
To face, the grace
Of their relation
Is conversation
Sustained at length:
Their deepest strength
Is intertwined
As they give mind
And heart and voice
To their shared choice.
Their chance is best
If interest
Abides and thrives
Throughout their lives.
