Hidden Lure

by Peter Saint-Andre

There are a hundred ways to lose your way
By living for the sake of others' lives;
There are a hundred means to lose the mean
Between your virtues and your other drives.

What's worst is that these paths will earn you praise
And those who benefit will deem you blessed.
It's easier, it seems, to drop your dreams
Since following your call demands your best.
