I lie within myself; I cannot stand aside.
Interpreting myself is always just outside
My reach. Whoever climbs above me in his way
Will lift my image up into the light of day.

Interpretation

Leg' ich mich aus, so leg' ich mich hinein:
Ich kann nicht selbst mein Interprete sein.
Doch wer nur steigt auf seiner eignen Bahn,
Trägt auch mein Bild zu hellerm Licht hinan.
